From 1929 until 1955 the Northern section of Davidson County was served only by the bookmobile.
In 1955, permanent public library service came to the area with the opening of the first Welcome/North Davidson branch in a white house which later became the office of Dr. Lanier of Welcome.
In 1971, the library with other county government agencies moved into a new county facility built for their use.
Dempsey Essick, the well know Davidson County artist, contributed this mural to the library while still a high school student. The mural can still be seen in the library's Children's Storytime Room.
Between 1971 and 1987, the library continued to grow until in 1987 the library was the sole occupant of the building. The building was renovated to meet the unique needs of a library.
The library continued to expand it services to include new media and new information resources resulting in an expansion of the building 1998-99.
In the 21st century, North Davidson citizens can be proud of the variety of library services available to them.
